ABOUT

Carlos Farinha was born in Santarém, Portugal, in 1971. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. His work ranges from painting, drawing, sculpture and performance art. Since 1990, he has been exhibiting regularly, with numerous awards, including the 1st prize at "VIDArte".

 

Carlos Farinha was a founding member of the "Epipiderme" art project and presents a public work with the sculpture "Cortiçada" in Proença-a-Nova.  In 2007 he started the project "O Mundo à Cabeceira", focusing his work on social and ironic behavior, with a strong figurative content.From this project came many individual exhibitions. "O Mundo a Cabeceira" at Cidadela de Cascais in 2008 and then in 2009 "Dedo grande do Pé" curated by Umbigo Magazine, followed by "A Grande Alface" at Galeria São Bento in 2011. In 2012 Carlos participated in the "Interferes Festival" " with drawings that circulated in the Lisbon metro carriages. In 2013 "L'extraordinaire Mr. Sousa" in the house of Portugal and in the University City of Paris. In 2014 he exhibited in Macau at the Iao Hin Gallery, between 2015 and 2018 among several exhibitions had "A certain Portugality" and "Once Upon a Time" at the Arte Periférica Gallery at the CCB and, in collaboration with the Portuguese Embassy in Beijing and the same Gallery, was represented at Art Beijin 2018 in China. In 2019, he held the exhibition “Sentido Figurado” at the Museu do Oriente in Lisbon, where he brought together some of his most emblematic works.

Carlos Farinha is now represented in many public and private collections, including the multinational Malwarebytes, the Halabja Museum in Iraq, the Kobane Culture House in Syria, the Official Residence of the Consul of Portugal in Macau, the Museum of the Orient and the Chambers Municipalities of Castelo Branco, Proença-a-Nova and Loures.
